Những bài báo về Edward Snowden đã tiết lộ bí mật của U.S. National Security Agency đã giúp nhật báo Guardian và Washington Post đã đoạt giải thưởng cao quý nhất của Pulitzer lần thứ 98.
Các nhiếp ảnh gia của tờ The New York Times đã giành hai giải thưởng Pulitzer. Giải thưởng hạng mục Breaking News Photography dành cho hình ảnh hấp dẫn và lòng dũng cảm trong việc tác nghiệp ghi lại cuộc tấn công khủng bố diễn ra tại trung tâm mua sắm Westgate ở Kenya. Hạng mục Feature Photography cho những bài viết ghi nhận về sự kiện vụ nổ bom tại Boston Marathon và các nạn nhân sau vụ nổ.
Hạng mục giải Local Reporting đã thuộc về Tampa Bay Times với loạt phóng sự điều tra về những người nhập cư và vô gia cư. Lần thứ hai trong lịch sử giải thưởng Pulitzer, không có giải dành cho hạng mục khó nhất Feature Writing.
Mỗi giải chiến thắng sẽ nhận được giấy chứng nhận và 10.000 USD.
