(Baonghean.vn) - It is about time to harvest red flesh dragon fruits in the farm of Mr. Tong Van Chien, unit 2, Bai So village, Tam Quang, Tuong Duong. This farm is known to be the first and successful business in growing red flesh dragon fruits in the area.
In 2014, Mr. Tong Van Chien – an Uncle Ho’s Veteran – has himself contacted to farmers in Vinh Phuc province to learn and bring red flesh dragon fruits to grow in Nghe An. Up to now, his family has approximately 350 pillars to grow this tasty fruit. Though Bai So village lacks of water around the year, Mr. Chien has incorporated with other 3 neighbors to construct watering system for their own farms using their own money. The mountainous weather in Tuong Duong is quite harsh for farming, especially for dragon fruits in its blooming season, when the temperature and dryness are at peak. However, this fruit still brings the most benefit compared to others. Mr. Tong Van Chien shared that red flesh dragon fruits are often been attacked by harmful insects and worms. Even in that case, he has tried to use manual means and methods to get rid of them instead of using chemicals and pesticides. Young dragon fruit buds in early sunshine. One of the tricks used in protect Mr. Chien’s farm is to raise goose underneath. These gooses seem to be “pesticide equip” as they help to catch insects and snails that are damaging the trees. These dragon fruits under good care have been a clean source of fruit for the market in and outside of the area. Currently, a kilo of dragon fruit costs around 25000 to 30000 VND.
